And so, my adventures through the National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) continues on. For my first log, click on this link.
As some of you might know from my updates in Chat, I’m visiting my brother in Chicago right now. This means that I’ve been working on my project while being on a mini road trip.
It was a fun experience all around, except that I caught a virus in Toledo, Ohio. At first, I thought it was simply my dust allergies acting up because initially I only got a runny nose. But as we drove on through the road, I could feel other symptoms. I knew by the day after that it was not just allergies because I felt sluggish even after having slept for at least 10 hours that night.
And as it turned out, I’m not the only one in the Substack-verse that caught a cold…
Just for fun, I decided to call this bit of cold as the ‘Toledo Virus’ (even though I don’t even know for sure if it’s a virus that’s causing this). Or maybe it’s the vampires…
I’m glad that I did this NaNoWriMo with my own twist because if I had done it legit, I don’t think I would have been able to get much done in those days.
And with that out of the day, let’s talk about my project in detail.
Project Holy League Universe 3.0
I figured now is the best time for me to show my hand. I somewhat hesitated on this, but since most of the stories here have been published/posted in Germanicus Publishing, I figured there’s no harm in showing my plans. Here’s the outline for my project right now:
A little word of warning, this outline is not a completely accurate representation of my project when finished. I tend to be like that with my outlines. I pointed this out specifically because the way I put in my outline seemed to imply that these stories would go one after the other. But in truth, I also wrote a bunch of ‘notes’ that connect all the stories to form up the whole narrative.
As of the writing of this post, I’m right now around the Age of Exploration. I have just put in my microfiction The White Ogre of Aurelia into this manuscript. It was a neat little 100-word story I did thanks to a prompt by
. I think fact that I’m now using this story as a part of this project is just neat, but that’s just me.In all honesty, I’m not really pleased with what I have right now. But that’s okay because I’m just getting started. Another thing is that a lot of the stuff I have were originally standalone stories, so it took a lot of squinting to include it in the Holy League Universe.
My Progress
As you can see from the badges I’ve collected, I’m making good progress with my project. At the moment, I have about 14k words in my manuscript. But as I have often stressed (and can’t stress enough), much of the legwork had been done already. Thus, I can get some words in easily even when I have been busy or feeling like crap (or both).
I expect my progress to slow down somewhat when I finally reach my WIP story. That can be found in the Dark Age of Technology section of my outline. I still have quite a bit to go before I get to that, so I’ll cross that bridge when I get there.
Moving Forward
As I have said in my Chat, I’m feeling much better now compared to yesterday. Thankfully, I don’t have to worry about work since I’m technically on vacation right now. Of course, being surrounded by family (including two rambunctious nephews) mean that I’d have to be smart with my time if I want to get anything done with this.
Regardless, I feel optimistic given the work I’ve put in for Project Holy League Universe 3.0.
Keeping Up
