Look Out, There's an Alligator! (Flash Fiction)

Just another day in the life of Charles.

Charles walked on the small dirt road. He had taken this path so many times that he wouldn’t be able give an exact answer if asked. In fact, he had taken this path just this morning. He was now heading back home from work. The eldest of five kids, the twelve-year old boy had to quit school in order to feed his family following his father’s death.

It had been a hard day at work, but he knew that the most challenging part of the day was yet to come. That challenge was now in front of him, a very large river.
