Author’s Note: Earlier this year, Silence and Starsong held another flash fiction contest. This story was my entry for that contest.

“The Death of Arthur and Mordred”, illustration by N.C. Wyeth in The Boy’s King Arthur, 1917

The skies were grim, darkened by the black feathers of ravens. Upon the Great Rock of the Holy Plane, two warriors stood face-to-face. Multitude of bones scattered about the ground, witnesses to the death battle ahead.

Marked by the skulls adorning his person, The Champion spoke, “Greetings, challenger. Alexandros, The Strongest There Is welcomes you. State your name.”

“My name is Pyros. I am your son.”
