Author’s Note: This is actually part of a longer story I worked on a while back. Unfortunately, I ran out of steam but I might chase this story in the future. For now I’ll just get a flash fiction out of it. Enjoy!

It all happened so quickly. At the time, I was at East Capitol Street, on my way to work at the Library of Congress. In my car, I saw the bright blue sky turning blood red in a matter of seconds. Then, a huge gust of wind, like a hurricane. My car was flipped over, but I somehow survived. Ignoring the pain all over my joints, I was able to open the upside-down door and crawled out of my automobile before I realized that the ground was all red. When I stood up, I saw the horrifying sight in front of me. The road was all cracked, and I saw what looked to be fire breaking out from below.

But before I could get my bearings straight, I saw a red bestial creature with two horns lunging straight at me. It swung its claws at me, and I was thrown to the ground. Holding on to my bloodied arm, I knew that I was finished. The demon – for lack of a better word – was going to skewer me.
